Every note has a color and a text color. New notes start out yellow. Giving each kind of note its own color lets you read your workspace at a glance, before you open anything.

Change a Note’s Color

  1. Click the note to open its page.
  2. Below the title are two color boxes. The left box sets the note’s color, and the right box sets its text color.
  3. Click a box, then pick a color or type a hex code such as #c9f0d0.

The change shows on the grid straight away. To go back to the standard colors, choose Default Colors in the ••• menu.

For the full details, including documents, binders, and fences, see Change an Item’s Color and Text Color.

Build a Color Key

Pick a few colors and give each one a meaning. For example:

ColorMeaning

GreenOn track
YellowWaiting
PinkBlocked
BlueDone

Put one note of each color in a small fence near the top of your workspace, titled with its meaning, so you, and anyone you share those notes with, know what the colors mean.

Tips

  • Use only a few colors. Four or five are easier to remember than ten.
  • Keep the text color dark on light notes so the text stays easy to read.
  • Changing the color of a shared note changes it for everyone, and people you share with need Edit Colors to change it.
